Frequently Asked Questions
The lifespan of the A-0503 is 10–12 meters on an 8 mm weld.
Using certified support tools can extend disc lifespan by up to 20%.
With the A-0503, it is possible to remove around 1 meter of 8 mm fillet weld per hour, depending on access, material, and working position.
Our cutting discs can be resharpened and remain Ex-certified.

Removing Welds Against Deck Plates
In this example, a weld against a deck plate is removed using the A-0503 or A-0302 in combination with the A-0410 or A-0420 support tools.
The weld is removed by working vertically down along the plate, with controlled penetration into the weld to ensure complete removal.
If it is critical to avoid damage to the underlying plate or surface, the final section of the weld can be removed by working horizontally, maintaining full control throughout the operation.
This method ensures clean separation while minimizing the risk of plate damage.
Horizontal Weld Removal on Deck Plates
One of the key advantages of the A-0503 weld removal disc is its ability to be placed completely flat against the surface.
This allows for efficient and controlled horizontal weld removal, which is particularly useful when removing deck plates or doubling plates where access is limited.
Flat positioning improves stability, reduces vibration, and contributes to a more consistent result.
Flushing and Surface Finishing After Weld Removal
Once the weld seam has been fully removed, the A-0503 weld seam disc can also be used to flush and level the surface.
This step ensures a smooth finish, prepares the area for further work, and reduces the need for additional grinding operations.
